To Work for Me, or Not to Work for Me…

Works for Me Wednesday

I’m usually a lipgloss kind of gal.  But occasionally I like to doll myself up superbly and go the route of lipstick.  There’s a classy elegance to lipstick…very Ginger Rogers with Katherine Hepburn-esque style…dancing backwards in high heels while providing plentiful conversation and an air of aloofness.  Yes, lipstick makes me feel like a Hollywood starlet when I wear it.  The problem is…my lips are this big, and I always end up looking like I have kool-aid face.  I’ve attempted to use lip plumper to make them bigger so I have a larger surface to work with, only to appear to have been attacked by a swarm of angry bees.  I’ve attempted the lipliner, powder, lipliner again, lipstick, blot, powder technique…and it’s obviously time consuming.  Not to mention about an hour later when I’m eating the layers off at dinnertime.  Then there’s the “no strings attached” approach, where you apply the lipstick without any lipliner restraints and hope for the best.  We won’t talk about the horrors of that story.  Let’s just multiply kool-aid face by 1000 and you’ll get the idea of what I looked like.

Today is my anniversary with DF (Darling Fiancee), and I would like to doll myself up for a night on the town with him this weekend.  And I want to wear lipstick.

I am seeking advice on how to apply lipstick so that it stays.  What works for you?  What has failed you?  Are there products you would have a stroke over if they were discontinued?  Tell me about them!

I put chapstick on before my lipstick. I was taught that by my cousin who was a make-up diva. LOL! So I put chapstick on (regular ol’ Blistix), then I swipe my lips with lipstick and dab some lipgloss for shine. Not much – but that’s my trick. Or I do w/o the lipgloss.

Hope that helps!

P.S. I can’t believe you guys have been together for a year. Time flies!!

Although I’m not sure if this will work on thinner lips but what I’ve done in the past when running out of lipstick is use eye shadow and cover it with gloss. I’m not sure if it will cure your “kool-aid face” but it’s worth a shot! :D I think natural is better anywho. ;)
