Kaizen Solution Saves You Money

Falling in love with a blog I more often than not frequent these days, Simple Mom hosted a great blog regarding the Kaizen Solution, introduced by Zen Habits into the blogosphere (or at least my blogosphere!).

Kaizen is a Japanese word which means continuous but very small change.  It’s a solution recommending that baby steps be taken over a longer period of time to produce change and instill habits.

While several examples were given on how to incorporate this change into daily life, the one which stuck out to me the most pertained to having a goal of saving money.  I am not sure about all of you, but I always have the best of intentions when I say, “I’m going to put fifty extra dollars back every month in savings.”  We all know what happens with a lump sum of money like that by the end of the month…it’s gone.  It disappears into a grocery bill, or a nice evening out with the HTB.  But, what if the Kaizen solution were used to save this money?  Small change = greater change over a longer period of time, right?

Using the same example Simple Mom provided in her blog, consider transferring $1.65 every day into your savings account.  We all can do that, right?  From January 1st – December 31st, we save a dollar and some change.  Let’s do the math:

   1.65
x 365
$602.25

Wow!!  Over 600 buckaroos by the end of the year?!  What can you do with that kind of cash??!!  Better yet, what will you do with that kind of cash if you choose to try this approach?  I would love to hear your thoughts!!

Interesting note:  The Japanese auto industryhas been utilizing the Kaizen solution in an effort to produce better vehicles and make a bigger impact on the auto industry globally…I think they’ve proven this philosophy works, huh??
